The long-running dispute between the District of Columbia and railroads carrying hazardous materials came to an end this past June 28. DC agreed with CSX Transportation Inc that its Terrorism Prevention in Hazardous Materials Transportation Act of 2006 is preempted by the federal Hazardous Materials Transportation Act and the Federal Rail Safety Act, as amended, insofar as it deals with the District’s jurisdiction over the transport by rail car of hazardous materials.

Transport Canada has published Amendment 9 to the Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Regulations in Part I of Canada Gazette, proposing to update the references to two standards: CGSB-43.126 on the reconditioning, remanufacturing and repair of drums for the transportation of dangerous goods; and CGSB- 43.145 on the construction, modification, qualification, maintenance and selection of means of containment for the handling, offering for transport or transporting of dangerous goods by rail.
