A look back at what was hot news in the January 1980 issue of HCB The joint meeting of the RID/ADR experts had taken place in October 1979. On the agenda were a number of items that might sound familiar to industry today, not least the alignment of the classification criteria for Class 3 ‘inflammable liquids’ (as they were then termed) with those in the UN Recommendations, a major amendment to the provisions for Division 6.1 toxics and performance tests for packagings other than metal drums. |

SIGTTO analyses ESD The Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) has published the results of an investigation of emergency shutdown systems (ESD) for ship/shore transfer operations. A SIGTTO working group examined all aspects of ESD requirements in order to help encourage common understanding of the underlying philosophy and a standard approach to ESD specification and design. The ultimate goal is to increase compatibility at LPG and LNG tanker berths. |
