SIL3 for Magnetrol

Magnetrol’s Eclipse® 705 two-wire guided wave radar has received the exida certificate for a SIL 3 Capable device according to the ICE61508:2000, parts 1–7. The certification confirms that combining two devices in a 1oo2 set-up conforms to Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 loop requirements, which govern the whole installation, not just one device.

SIL ratings measure the safety risk of a given process: the higher the SIL level, the greater the impact of a failure and the lower the failure rate that is acceptable. Level 4 is the most dependable rating achievable, so being awarded a level 3 rating confirms that Magnetrol’s devices have a high standard of reliability, audited by independent system consulting, product test and assessment agency exida.
