RID derogation for cylinders

Germany has initiated a multilateral special agreement under RID, 1/2012, concerning the marking and labelling of cylinders for Class 2 gases.

The agreement, which has been counter- signed by Belgium, provides a derogation from the provisions of 5.2.2.2.1.2.1 and .2; cylinders for Class 2 gases may, because of their shape, orientation and securing mechanisms, also bear an environmentally hazardous substance (HNS) mark that is reduced in size, according to the specifications in ISO 7225:2005.

Furthermore, the EHS mark may overlap hazard labels to the extent provided for in the same ISO standard. However, in all cases the primary risk label and the figures appearing on any label must be fully visible.

The agreement will be valid until December 31, 2012 for carriage on the territories of any RID contracting states that sign the agreement.
