PHMSA has issued an ANPRM seeking industry's opinions on potential changes to the gas cylinder regulations in HMR. The ANPRM responds to ten petitions from industry. Proposed amendments may include wider use of industry standards; updating the rules for the manufacture, testing and marking of DOT-4 cylinders; clarification of the filling requirements; the use of gas cylinders in fire suppression systems; and revisions to the requalification and condemnation processes.

In issuing the ANPRM, PHMSA has broadened the potential area of amendments and will entertain comments from the regulated industry on other issues relating to the manufacture and use of gas cylinders. The comment period ends on August 27.
