OMCE foresees new products

Italian-headquartered OMCE reports that the local steel drum market is currently “reducing by 5 to 10 per cent” per annum. Things, however, could well improve should the euro weaken against the US dollar as this would help stimulate demand for the country’s drum-using exporters. Likewise, the market would also greatly benefit should the automotive and construction industries return to the levels of activity seen before the economic downturn.

Operating an 85,000 m2 production site with a covered area of 22,000 m2 in Ancona, OMCE also maintains drum plants in Zarqa in Jordan and, since late last year, Sanmenxia in China. In addition to the provision of UN-approved cylindrical and conical steel drums, the company can simultaneously supply customers with plastics drums and KBIN blow-moulded composite intermediate bulk containers (IBCs). Indeed, OMCE has now doubled production capacity for these two plastics packaging types at its Ancona plant following the introduction last year of a new multilevel layout.
