Oiltanking opens two
Oiltanking Odfjell's (OOTO) new independent tank terminal in the port of Sohar, Oman has opened for business. The 836,000 m³ facility handles clean products and chemicals and OOTO is to add another 6,300 m³ of capacity by mid-2009, bringing total capacity to 842,500 m³.
The terminal has multiple pipeline connections to the local refinery and is situated in the midst of a number of major international shipping lanes just outside the Strait of Hormuz in the Gulf of Oman. The terminal's infrastructure allows for excellent flexibility to its customers, quick turnaround times for vessels and added capabilities such as truck loading, blending and injecting of additives.
Another new Oiltanking terminal, the 74,000 m³ facility in Nanjing, China, also opened for business last month. The first cargo of methanol arrived on April 21 aboard the 17,000 dwt chemical tanker Borneo Pioneer.
Tankers of up to 40,000 dwt can be accommodated at the three berths, located on the north bank of the Yangtse. The site was picked to provide quick turnaround times for vessels and the completed facility offers excellent truck loading capabilities as well as pipeline connectivity to industries in the Nanjing Chemical Industry Park (NCIP).
The construction of a state-of-the-art railway station with capability to load railcars as well as to efficiently receive and discharge unit trains directed to Nanjing from the north-western hinterland is underway.
