Melrob catches the eye
Melrob has been named as BASF’s global sales partner for its GMMA and Si-Hy monomer lines. “Melrob’s partnership with BASF provides the platform to service our mutual customers and capitalise on the increasing demand for these monomers,” Melrob says. “Our industry profile and global customer base in the optical sector enables these products to be considered for traditional usage and, perhaps more importantly, for new applications.”
Meanwhile, Vickers Laboratories has now selected Melrob to distribute its high purity n-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP) to manufacturers of contact lenses. The link with Melrob, which has an extensive customer base in the optical sector across Europe, Asia and the US, will enable Vickers to capitalise on growing demand for NVP, which has been driven by the increasing use of silicone hydrogel contact lenses. “The combination of our distribution skills and Vickers’ expertise in manufacturing this complex material provides an excellent opportunity for manufacturers to buy in NVP rather than purifying it in-house,” says Melrob managing director Ian Melluish.
Glen Dunbar has joined Melrob as adhesives business manager. "Glen started his career in technical environments, servicing the plastics, ink and adhesive industries before moving into commercial development roles," the company reports. "He has spent the last 11 years with Arizona Chemical, working within the Adhesive Business Unit in a number of different fields, which will no doubt prove valuable when working with our customers and suppliers."
Meanwhile, Melrob reports that one of its principals, Germany-headquartered LCP Technology, is to discontinue manufacturing its entire Helicone HC product line due to "insufficient commercial success". Melrob, however, will continue to offer alternative effect pigments from Sun Chemical.
