It must be a SAMEL
Having previously worked together on the Shanghai Logistics Hub project, Agility and Schmidt Heilbronn have now formed SAMEL, a joint venture that seeks to “address the sharply increasing need – especially across the Middle East – for dry bulk solutions on the back of rapid growth in chemical manufacturing in the region”. Combining “Schmidt Heilbronn’s specialised expertise in bulk polymer logistics with Agility’s global logistics network, strength in emerging markets and in-house chemicals specialty,” SAMEL will offer customers “a complete package from design and construction to ongoing supply chain management, operations and dry bulk transport”.
“Schmidt and Agility are delivering the right solution to the market at the right time,” says Andrew Jackson, president and CEO of Agility Chemicals. “We now have everything we need under one roof to meet customer needs across the Middle East and beyond.” “This venture brings together a unique blend of experience and technical knowledge,” adds SAMEL CEO Wolfgang Hoppmann. “The degree of success with which our two companies have worked together is a tremendous platform for Schmidt and Agility as we look to the future and to the massive opportunity we see both in the Middle East and across emerging markets generally.”
In other news, Agility reports that it has received Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) Trucking Security Requirement (TSR) Classification 1 (2008) certification for its trucking operations in Hong Kong. The two-year certificate, it asserts, will enable it to provide logistics services to customers with valuable and sensitive shipments that require a high degree of security. “The TAPA certification means that our customers have the peace of mind knowing our trucking operations and associated logistics facilities in Hong Kong are operating to the highest international standards,” says Chris Pollard, Agility’s chief operating officer, international integrated logistics, Greater China. “A secure supply chain is a key requirement for many of our customers and we are constantly upgrading our systems, monitoring our performance levels and looking for ways to improve our processes.”
