Azelis taps into Russian potential

Azelis reports that it has completed its geographic coverage plans for central and eastern Europe (CEE) with the establishment of Azelis Rus in Russia. While rich in natural minerals, Russia lacks many raw materials required by a local manufacturing sector looking to satisfy unprecedented levels of consumer demand from the country's population of 140m. This high growth market therefore represents a significant business opportunity for producers of performance chemicals and life science products. Moreover, the fact that the local distribution market has yet to develop to the levels of organisation associated with western Europe "presents Azelis with an attractive opportunity to establish itself as the preferred partner providing efficient and reliable access to a largely untapped market", with managing director Victor Evdokimov appointed to develop the new business, which operates offices in Moscow in addition to nearby warehousing facilities, with the goal of clocking up sales of €15m by the end of the year.

Having previously worked for a major chemicals producer, Evdokimov brings with him "a wealth of chemical industry experience" and "will be instrumental in growing the Azelis performance chemicals business into the coatings, chemicals and plastics sectors," the company asserts. At the same time, he will also be responsible for developing Azelis Rus's life sciences business, servicing customers from the country's burgeoning food and personal care industries. "We are resolute that Azelis Rus will offer principals the same levels of service that are expected in Europe – technical development and support for customers, a focused marketing strategy, market intelligence and good communication links," says Michel Dubois, the Azelis executive member with overall responsibility for the Russian business.
