MPA warns on hydrogen sulphide

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) issued a Port Marine Circular (No 02 of 2010), providing operational guidance to minimise the risks associated with exposure to high concentrations of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) in oil and petroleum cargoes, including bunker fuels. Guidelines on H2S toxicity, precautions, safe handling procedures, measurement and testing are included in the International Safety Guide for Oil Tankers and Terminals (ISGOTT) and this Circular aims to highlight that information for the shipping community and terminal operators.
